"Hey, I'm going to go get some ice cream for us. That way you can call your guys." Connie told me, standing up. "Okay. Thanks." I told her. "Of course. Good luck." She said, then left. I picked up the phone and called Mike real quick. He didn't answer, so I just left him a message, then called Travis. "Hey!" He said, answering. He sounded excited. "Hi. How are you?" I asked him. "I'm good. How are you?" He asked. "Been worse." I told him. "So?" He asked. "So, you weren't the father." I told him. "Oh." He said, sounding kind of disapointed. "Are you okay?" I asked him. "Yeah. I guess I had just kind of hoped it would have been me. I know you lost the baby, but-" He sighed. "I don't know." He said. "I'm sorry." I told him. "It's okay. Who is?" He asked. "Will." I told him. "Did you tell him yet?" He asked. "No. I'm calling him next. I told him. "Good. Call me if you ever need anything. Okay." He said. "I will." I told him. "Bye." He said, and hung up. I started to call Will, but hung up the phone before it rang. I took a deep breath and tried not to cry. I dialed the phone again and called him. "Robby?" He answered. "Hey." "HEY! I was worried about you! You hadn't called me since you left." He said. "I know. Sorry about that." I told him. "Are you okay? I heard what happend." He said. "Yeah. I'm doing okay." "Did you get the results?" He asked. "Yeah." I said. "And?" "And you would have been the father." There was silence on the other end. "Will?" I asked. "Yeah. Sorry. I just don't know what to say." He said, sounding upset. "I'm so sorry." I said, starting to cry. "It isn't your fault. It just wasn't meant to be." He said. "I guess not. I wanted it to be though." I told him. "Me too." He said. "Robby, I want to see you. I miss you. You're my best friend." "I miss you too. I'll see you at Christmas." I told him, trying really hard not to start balling. "Okay. Love you. Call me more." He said. It sounded like he was about to cry too. "I will. Love ya." I said, and hung up. I picked up a pillow and started crying into it. Just then the door opened and Connie walked in. "Oh sweetie!" She said, walking over to me. She put the bag on the floor and put her arms around me. "It's okay." She said. "I know. He sounded so sad." I told her. "He'll be okay." "I know. I just wish it hadn't happened." I told her. "It'll get better." she said. "I want Simon." I told her. "They'll be back tomorrow." She told me. "I know." I said, and wiped my eyes. "Come on! We'll eat some ice cream, right out of the container, and watch a silly movie." She said. "Okay." I told her, and smiled. We spent the night watching dumb movies and laughing. She was really making me feel a lot better.
There was a knock on my door the next morning. I yawned, and got up, stepping over Connie, who was asleep on the floor. I opened the door and Simon was standing there. "SIMON!" I shouted, and gave him a huge hug. "Hey baby. I missed you too." He laughed. Trev was standing behind him with Pete. "Come in guys." I said. They followed me in. "CONNIE!" Trev shouted, tapping her with his foot. "Go away!" She mumbled. "It's Trev." He said, and she sat up. "Oh, hi. How was your trip?" She asked. "It was okay. We came back early." He said. "I see that." Connie said, yawning. "Let's go get food." Trev said. "Okay. I look horrible though!" Connie said, as Trev helped her up off the floor. "You look cute." He said, and kissed her. "Go brush your teeth!" "Shut up." She said, laughing.
We went to Denny's and ate. For once I was the super quiet one, not Pete. The guys kept talking about their little trip with Connie. "DUDE! Pete totaly bombed that huge wave! How much water did you swollow?" Trev asked, hitting his arm. "Not as much as your mom last night." Pete said, and they all laughed. Simon looked at me and put his hand on my leg. "Is everything okay?" He asked me. Everyone looked at me, and I got embarassed. "Oh, yeah. Sorry. I'm just tired." I told everyone. "Aw, it's okay. You had a rough night." Connie said, and smiled. "Rough night?" Simon asked, looking at me. "I'll, uh, tell you later." I told him. "Okay." He said, giving me a curious look. I just smiled at him, and he squeezed my leg again. They all talked for a while, and I just sat and listened. I realized what it must of felt like when new comers came into my group of friends back home. Thinking of everyone made me smile. "What are you smiling about?" Connie asked me. "I was just thinking about when Will met all my close friends back home." I told her. "Will?" Simon asked. "Oh, I didn't tell you about him? He was my best friend when I was a kid. We tried dating last year." I told him. "Oh." He said. I felt like an idiot for mentioning Will like that! "So! When is the next surfing trip? You guys should take us next time." Connie said, changing the subject for me. The guys all started talking again. "Thank you." I mouthed to her. She just smiled, and winked at me. "You girls totaly have to come!" Trev said, getting excited. "Totaly?" Connie asked him. "Hey. It's the surfer dude in me coming out." Trev said, and we laughed. "Surfer dude. Whatever." She said. "It would be cool if you two came on a trip with us. Maybe Petes mom could come to keep him company." Trev said, and Pete punched him. "DUDE!" he said. "I think I might have met a girl." Pete said. "Oooooo! A GIRL?" Connie asked, getting excited. "Yeah. Don't act so surprised!" Pete said, then told us about a girl he met at his work.
We hung out for a while, then we all split up. Simon and I decided to go for a drive. There was still a lot of San Diego I hadn't seen yet. "So, who is Will?" Simon asked after a few minutes of driving. "Will was the father." I told him. "I thought you didn't know." He said. "I didn't. I had tests done to find out. I wanted to know." I told him. "Oh." He said. "Is that okay?" I asked him. "Yeah. I'm sorry." He said. "It's okay." I told him, smiling. He looked at me, then picked up my hand and kissed it. "I made a list. Things I need to do for myself to get my life together. One of things that I needed to move forward was to know who the father was." I told him. "I understand." He said. "What else was on the list?" "It's kind of private." I said. "I understand that too." He told me. "Thank you. You'll know some of it eventualy." I told him. Just then my phone rang. It was Abby, my best friend. "Hello! ABBY!" I shouted, answering the phone. "Robyn! I havn't heard from you in so long!" She said. "I'm sorry I havn't called." I told her. "It's okay! You've been up to a lot." She told me. "How are you?" I asked her. "GREAT! I've been clean for almost 8 months now." She said. "I'm so proud of you." I told her. "Thanks. Carl has been too." She said. Carl was her boyfriend. Abby had accidently overdosed back home, causing them both to quit using drugs. "That is awesome!" I told her. "We have more good news." She said. "What is that?" I asked her. "We're getting married!" She shouted, and I screamed. "NO WAY! That is so cool!" I shouted, scaring Simon. "We're getting married next month." She said. "WHAT! Why so soon?" I asked her. "We just want something small. Just our friends. We want to have the Ceremony at The House of Blues." She said. "Thats great, but why so soon!" I asked her. She sighed. "Robyn, I didn't want to tell you so soon after you- Robyn I'm pregnant." She said. "That's great." I said, starting to cry. "Are you crying?" She asked. "NO! I'm excited!" I lied. "Oh, good. I want you to be my Maid of Honor. Can you come out?" She asked. "Of course." I told her. "Awesome! Carl's brother is his best man. That is all for the wedding party. Oh! Except for Cooper. He'll be in there too." She said, and giggled. "The dog?" I asked. "THE dog? He's your dog. He always will be." She told me. "Well, I'm so happy for you. I'll keep in touch, and see you next month then." I told her. "Okay, great! I'll email you the dates and stuff. What dress size are you?" She asked. "I'm a 4." I told her. "Holy shit!" She said. "I've lost a lot of weight." I told her. "No kidding! you were skinny to start, but wow." She said. "Well, take care of yourself. Talk to you soon." She said, and we hung up. "Who was that?" Simon asked. "Abby." I told him. "Oh yeah! You told me about her. How is she?" "She is pregnant, and getting married." I said, and teared up. "You okay?" He asked. "Yeah. I'm fine.
