The knocking on my door grew louder as I rushed around trying to get dressed. I had over slept, and was running late. When I got my pants on, and buttoned up I shouted, "You can come in now!". Connie opened up the door. "Did you forget?" She asked me. "No, are you kidding? I've been looking foward to this. I just overslept." I told her. "Yeah, yeah! Well, are you ready?" She asked. "Let me just blow dry my hair real quick. You can have a seat." I told her, and motioned for my bed. Then I realized I hadn't put the futon up into the couch position. "Oh! sorry!" I told her. "It's okay! Just hurry." She said, and giggled. I ran to the bathroom to finish getting ready. I was only in there for about 10 minutes, then decided I looked acceptable, and came back out. "Okay, you look great! Now lets go!" She said, jumping up. I slid on my flip flops, grabbed a sweater and my purse, then followed her out. I had to almost run to keep up with her, she was walking so fast. "Wait up! What is the rush?" I asked her. I want to get to the mall before it's full of people, and all the good sale items are gone!" She shouted back at me. I just laughed at her. She unlocked her old jeep, and we both climbed in. She turned on the radio and a familiar song came on. "Hey, I know this. It's Christina's Crush." I told her. "Yeah, they're newer." She said. "I know these guys! They used to play at my bar. One of the guys roomed with-" I stopped when I thought of Charlie. "With my old friend Charlie." I finished. I decided I wasn't going to get upset everytime I mentioned his name. "No way! Are you serious? You knew them before they started breaking out then, didn't you?" She asked. "Yeah, I did." I said, and smiled.
We arrived at the mall a few minutes later. There were hardly any cars in the parking lot. I had a feeling the mall hadn't even opened yet. Connie looked at her watch. "Okay, perfect timing! The mall opens in 10 minutes. Let's go!" She shouted, jumping out of the jeep. I just laughed, and followed her to the front entrance. "You are one hardcore shopper." I told her. "Yeah...there is a science to it. Follow my rules and you'll get the greatest clothes for half the price." She said. "What are the rules?" I asked her. "There are many, many rules. First, always get to the stores early. Hit clothes and shoes first so you can get your size." She said. We walked in and sat down on one of the benches to wait for the stores to open up. There were a few other people standing around and waiting here and there. Suddenly she stood up and walked over to a map, and pulled out a pen and a notebook. "What are you doing?" I asked her. "I'm writing down what stores we are going to hit first. The most popular ones. That is another rule...know exactly where you want to go, and prioritize." She said, writing down a list of stores in the order we were going to them. I just watched her and smiled. She was so different from anyone I had ever known before. She was blonde tan, athletic, and very intellegent. She also had a very diverse wardrobe. Like she didn't care what style anything was, she just wore what she liked. She had amazing taste. After she finished writing down her list of stores, she grabbed my hand and we started running, yes running, to whatever store she had wanted to go to first. I was laughing the whole way! Connie was serious at first, but when she heard me laughing, she started laughing too. She lead us into a Starbucks, and ordered us two coffees, completely out of breath. I couldn't stop giggling, and they guy at the counter kept giving us stranged lookes. That only made us both laugh even harder. We took our coffee and walked over to New York & Co. wich was just opening. There wasn't a single other shopper in the store yet. "This is one of my favorite stores!" She said, getting excited. I followed her in and she want right for some clothing racks. "Okay, next rule is grab as many clothes as you can to try on. That way you don't lose time by running back and forth from the dressing room." She said. I giggled and started going through clothes. I looked around and noticed people where filling up the store all ready. I had to admit, she knew what she was doing. After we both had our huge selection of clothes to try on, we walked to the dressing room. The clerk gave us a dirty look when she saw how many items we had. "Only 6 at a time." She said rudely. "Okay. Hold these for us then." Connie said right back, handing her the rest of our stacks. I loved everything I tried on, but I limited myself to only a few things. I new we still had some other stores to go to. When we were both done, and had the clothes we wanted, we ran over to the shoe section. We picked out a few styles, and sat down to wait for the clerk to come back out with the shoes to try on. "Wow, we're doing good so far!" Connie said. "Yeah, you are one hell of a shopper!" I told her. "So, you've been here a few weeks now, how do you like it here?" she asked. "I love it! It's exactly what I need." I answered. "And, what do you think about Simon?" She asked, catching me off guard. "Oh..um. He's nice." I said, trying not to sound embarassed. "Just nice?" She asked. "Do you like him? "Yeah. I do." I said, and blushed. "Aww! That is so cute! I can tell he totaly has a crush on you." She said. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah. He talks about you all the time." She said. I smiled. "You do like him! You guys should totaly date. I think you would make an adorable couple." She said. "I don't know-" I said. "Oh come on, you both obviously like each other!" She said. "Maybe." I told her. "Okay, okay, I'll stop now!" She said when the woman brought out our shoes. we tried them on, and both ended up getting a pair. After we checked out we went to a few other stores. I got a swimsuit, and some new sunglasses. A few hours had passed, and we were both pretty beat. "Let's go to the guys' apartment and have some lunch." Connie said. "Okay." I told her. I was kind of excited to get to see Simon again. She called Trev on our way and told him to order some sandwichs from the shoppe by their aparment.
When we got there Trev ran up to Connie, and picked her up, swinging her around. "I missed you!" He said. "Oh please!" she said, laughing. I smiled, and shut the door behind me. Simon was on the couch with Pete. He looked startled to see me. "Oh hey." He said, smiling. "Hey." I said, and waived. I felt shy around him for some stupid reason. "I didn't know you were coming over, I look like hell." He said. "No, you look good." I told him. "That is just because you can't smell him." Pete said, and I laughed. Simon punched his leg. "Hungry?" Connie asked, handing me a sandwhich. "Yeah, thanks." I told her, taking it from her. I sat down on the floor in front of Simon, and put my plated down on the coffee table. Trev turned on Bill and Ted's excellent adventure, and we watched it while we ate. When the movie was over, Connie was tired so Simon offered to drive me home. We walked down and unloaded my things from connies car, and put them in Simon's car. On the way to my apartment we didn't say much. Simon started humming a song. "What are you singing?" I asked him. "Oh! Sorry. I do that without realising it." He said. "It's okay, what was it?" I asked. "It sounds familiar." "Oh..it's nothing." He said. "Please. Sing it out loud for me." I said, and he blushed. "I can't." He told me. "Come on, please?" I asked. He sighed. "Come on baby blue, shake up those tired eyes, the world is wating for you." He sang. I sang with him on the last line. "May all your dreaming fill the empty sky." "You know it." He said. "Yeah. Oasis." I told him. He smiled at me, and my heart started beating.
When we got to my apartment he helped me carry my bags to my apartment. After we dropped them off he turned and looked at me. "Well, I guess I should go." He said. "You can hang out for a little while." I told him. "Uh, if you want to that is." I said. I couldn't believe how awkward I felt. "I would love to." He said, and walked inside with me. On our way in to sit on the couch, I tripped over a shoe, and nearly fell on my face. I would have, but Simon caught me. "Thanks." I said, feeling so embarassed. He helped me stand up, and continued to hold onto me. I looked into his eyes, and smiled. "What is it?" He asked. "I still owe you a kiss, don't I." I told him. He smiled, and blushed. I leaned up and kissed him. He placed one of his hands on the back of my neck, and his other arm around my waist.
We kissed for a minute, then I pulled away. I looked at Simon and he was smiling. I smiled at him and blushed. I wanted to just throw him on my bed, but I knew that would only cuase a lot of trouble. I reminded myself how I wanted to take things slowly now. "So, does this mean you are interested?" He asked me. "I guess it does." I said, feeling really nervous. "Don't look so scared." He said, pulling me closer. "Simon." I said, turning my head when he leaned in to kiss me. "Yeah?" He asked. "I'm interested, but I also need to take things really, really slow. Is that okay with you?" I asked. "Of course it is." He said, and kissed my forehead. I smiled, and hugged him. "I should get going. I have to get some things done before tonight. I'll call you later, okay." He said. "Okay. See you later." I told him, and he left. I sat on the edge of my bed, and sighed. I started wondering what exactly I was doing there. It had been a few weeks, and I wasn't really doing anything. I decided if I was going to move on I was going to need to figure out what I wanted out of my life. I started contemplating selling my share of the bar. I felt kind of bad collected money from it, but not making any of the decisions or putting any work into it. I didn't really know what I would do if I sold it though. I got up and decided to take a walk along the beach. That always had a way of helping me clear my head.
