While we were at my third doctors appointment for a check up, my phone started ringing. We let it ring the first time and go to voicemail. When it rang a second time, Luke picked it up. "Really?" He asked smiling. "Awww."
"What? What is it?" I asked.
"You're an Aunt!" He told me.
My eyes started to tear up. "WHAT?!" I asked excitedly.
"HER name is Krista and she was eight pounds exactly." He told me.
"Let me talk to him!" I said.
Luke laughed and handed me the phone. "Russell!" I said.
"She's beautiful." He said. "I never thought I could love anyone so much."
"Awwww." I said.
"How are you?" He asked.
"I'm great. I wish I could fly out and see you guys." I said.
"Next month, we want to come visit so you can see her." He said.
"Okay."
"I gotta go." He said.
"Okay, bye. I love you." I said.
"I love you too. See you soon." He said. He hung up.
"I can't beleive my brother has a kid." I said smiling.
"And she's going to have a cousin here shortly too." He said.
"We've still got a while." I said.
"Yes you do." The Dr. Reiss said.
"Oh sorry." I said giggling.
"Not a problem." She said. "It's always exciting when there is a new addition to the family. Anyway, everything looks great. The baby is healthy."
"Thanks." I said.
"See you in another month. Call or come in if you notice any extra swelling or pain." She said.
"Will do." I said.
We went home and went over more things for the wedding. We had it all pretty much planned. There were just a few things left to put together. "Weird." Luke said pulling his phone out of his pocket. "I got a text from Caleb saying congratulations."
I watched him text him back. They wrote back and forth for about a half hour. He kept giggling. "He met someone new. He's bringing him to the wedding." He said.
"Won't that be weird?" I asked.
"No. Of course not." He said. "But, I guess some of your ex's feel the same way you do." He said handing me an R.S.V.P. card with Will's name on it. I looked at it. He had checked off that he wasn't attending. My eyes started to tear up. "I wanted all my best friends to be there." I said.
"Leave the poor guy alone. It'll probably be awkward for him." He said.
"I'm going to call him." I said. Luke started to say something as I was walking out the door, but I didn't hear what he was saying. I sat down in the hall and dialed his number. He answered right away. "Will, why aren't you coming to the wedding?" I asked. He didn't answer. "Will?"
"I don't know." He said.
"Yes you do." I said.
"I guess it would be rough on me, Robby." He said.
"Okay." I said.
"Okay." He said.
"Yup." I said.
"I'm sorry. It would just be too hard for me to watch you marry someone else." He said.
"Will. . ."
"You know I wanted to marry you. I even asked you. I know it was sudden and seemed crazy, but it would have been incredible and you know it." He said.
"Maybe it would have been." I said. "Will you please at least think about it some more? I would really love for you to be there."
He sighed. "You just don't get it."
"I've been drama free for a few months now." I said.
"Good bye, Robby." He said. He hung up before I could say anything further. I wrote him a letter about all my feelings for him and how much I valued his friendship. I really hoped he would make it to the wedding. I forced myself to not let it get to me. I didn't have time to worry about anyone else. I hopped onto the couch where Luke was. He kissed my forehead. I looked at him and smiled. "I love you." I told him.
"And I love you." He said smiling.
