"I've never seen so many people." I said to Omar. We were walking around looking for a spot to sit on the grass. We had gotten there pretty early, so we had a good choice.
"How about over there? Close to the second stage?" He asked.
"Sure, it looks good." I told him. We walked over and layed out the blanket Omar had brought. We sat down and Omar opened his bag and pulled out some water.
"Thursty?" He asked.
"YES! I'm dying. I thought we would be stuck in line forever." I told him, and took a bottle from him.
"I can't believe Rose is late to Hooleyfest." Omar said.
"She'll be here soon. Maybe she will get lucky and miss the long lines." I told him.
"Maybe. You are going to have so much fun, just wait." He said, and smiled.
"I'm holding you to that." I told him. He looked around, and then reached down in his shoe and pulled out a joint. I was surprised to see him light it up with so many people around. It made me a little nervous.
"Hey, its cool. This goes on a lot here." He said.
I just smiled at him.
"You are going to have to try this someday." He said.
"I don't think so. I almost lost my friend to drugs." I told him. "I just can't see myself doing any of it...even just pot." I told him.
"It's cool, I understand." He said. I knew he would forget and ask me again later. He always did. Just then a security guard started walking over too us. I stiffened up and tried to warn Omar, but he wasn't looking at me.
"Omar!" I said, under my breath. He looked up at me and then looked up at the security guard. But it was too late.
"Son, I'm gonna have to ask you to come with me." He said to Omar. I was wondering why he called him Son. He looked our age.
"Sir. I'm gonna have to ask you to stop being a prick." Omar answered back, and blew smoke at him. My eyes got huge!
"Only if you spot me some of that, loser." the guard said. I fianaly caught on.
"Hell yeah." Omar said, handing it to him.
"So, you got a job working security for Hooley this year? How did you manage that Jack?" Omar asked him.
"I got lucky. I'm getting paid a ton too! How've you been man." Jack asked him. "Where is Rose?"
"I'm good. She'll be here. This is Robyn. Robyn, Jack." Omar introduced us.
"Hi, nice to meet you." I said, and smiled.
"Same. Always a pleasure to meet a pretty girl." He said. I just smiled at him.
"Well, I'll see you around bro." Jack said, and shook Omar's hand.
"You were totaly freaked out." Omar said.
"I was not!" I told him.
"Yes you were! You thought I was busdted!" He said.
"Shut up! I did not!" I lied.
"Yes you did!" He said. I through my waterbottle at him, and he caught it with one hand.
"Hey now. Peace, Peace my sister." He said, and I started to laugh really hard.
"So, it looks like the bands we really want to see aren't comeing on for about 2 hours. So, I figure we can just chill for a while and listen to some other bands while we are waiting for Rose. Then we can walk around, let you check the place out." He said, then took another hit. After that he put it out, then put it in his shirt pocket.
"I'll save the rest for later." He said.
"Okay." I said, and giggled. We sat and talked for a little while waiting for Rose to get there. She had accidently scheduled two massages for that morning. We finaly got a call from her saying she had made it inside and was looking for us. Once she found us We packed up our stuff and started to walk around. There were booths set up everywhere. Most were merchandise tents, but some were for radio stations, and a few where for local bars trying to promote themselves. I started to wonder about buying a recording studio, and maybe even producing some stuff. It sounded like it would be interesting, and fun.
"HEY!" I heard someone shout. I turned around. It was Parker, from a band back in Utah! He had taken me out once, but it didn't seem to quite work out between us.
"HEY! PARKER!" I shouted. He ran over to me and gave me a hug.
"What are you doing out here?" I asked him. "I havn't seen since Charlie- since I left." I told him.
"The band started to tour around a little. We made it out here to hooleyfest. We aren't playing though, just trying to promote." He said, handing me a CD. It Said CHRISTINASCRUSH along the top in red, and had a picture of the band in black and white. It almost look like someone sketched it.
"WOW! Very nice! Is Sweet Sarah on here?" I asked.
"Of course!" He said.
"Good, it's my favorite. So where are the rest of you guys?" I asked him.
"We are scattered around. So is this where you ended up? San Diego?" He asked.
"For now." I told him.
"Cool. We love out here. We were thinking of maybe moving out here. Especiaclly since the music scene is a little more happinin out here." He said.
"Happinin?" I asked him.
"Yeah." He said, and smiled, blushing. I forgot how cute and shy he was. Especialy for being in a punk band.
"Well, hey. We have got a lot to catch up on. Let me give you my phone number and we'll get together somethine." I told him.
"Okay." He said, pulling out his phone. We exchanged numbers. I was looking foraward to seeing him. He was one of Charlies roomates, and good friends. In fact Charlie had been the one to book Parkers band at The House. We stood there kind of awkwardly for a few seconds.
"Oh! Here." I said, giving him back his CD.
"NO! You keep that one. It's because of you that we got our start. It's the leat I can do." He said.
"Thanks." I told him, and gave him another hug.
"See you around." I told him, and walked back over to Omar and Rose.
"What a small world." I said, and Rose laughed.
"That it is sweetie." She said. We walked around for a little while longer, and then it was time for Time Again to play. There was a croud gathered in front of the stage already. While we were standing there waiting I started looking at the CD. On the inner cover there was a paragraph that said "Specail Thanks To..." I read it, and smiled when halfway through the paragraph I read, "...Charlie, Robyn, Luke, Abby, Travis, and the rest of the House Of Blues, UT staff...." I put the Cd in my bag and started thinking about producing, or even starting a small label, again. It was at least an entertaining idea if nothing else. I looked up at the stage just in time to see the band start playing.
