"So this is where you hide out?" I heard Simon say. I closed my journal and sat up smiling. I placed it in my lap, along with my pencil. "I'm glad I ran into you. My cousin Stew has a place along the bay a few miles down. He's havin' a bonfire tonight near the water. I was wondering if you would come." He said. "I think I can do that." I said smiling. I stood up. The breeze made my skirt fly up, revealing my panties. I was so embarassed. I thanked the lord that nobody else was around. Even though Simon saw, he acted like nothing had happen. I picked up my journal and my sandles. I shook the sand off my feet and stepped onto the sidewalk. "I'll have Connie pick you up. Be ready at six." He said. I nodded and smiled at him. "Thanks." I said. He looked like he had just finished surfing. "Well, I gotta hit the showers. I'll see you at the party." He said. "Okay." I said. I brushed my hair out of my face and put it back in a bun. In this weather, my hair was much fuller and wavier. I liked that. I started my walk back to my apartment. As I passed all the little shops and board rental places, I smiled. Everyone looked so happy. It was amazing. "Oh my gosh, check out these sunglasses. I swear I saw Courney Cox wearing a pair just like this." A teenage girl said as she tried on a pair of sunglasses. I giggled. I stopped and observed her as her mother told her she wasn't going to purchase the sunglasses for her. When they walked away, I stepped over to the display and tried them on myself. I loved them and had to have them. I pulled a five dollar bill out of the back of my journal and bought them. They made me feel great. I laughed at myself. The smallest things were starting to chear me up. Even just walking barefoot back to my apartment made me feel so free. When I got to my apartment, I took a shower. As I checked myself out in the mirror after I dried off, I realized how long it had been since I actually felt pretty. I noticed I had a few bruises on my right arm and my left leg. I really was a mess. I searched through my closet for something to wear to the bonfire. I knew the weather would be slightly chilly by the water, so I went with my light pink haltor top and my long white skirt. I hadn't worn either of those since I was in high school. I wasn't sure why I held onto them, but at that moment, I was glad that I did. I put my hair in two small buns that sat right above my shoulders. I smiled as I looked at them in the mirror. "Don't give up on yourself." I said softly to my reflecion in the mirror. I put a small amount of eye makeup on and some light pink lipgloss. I rinsed off my sandles and put them on. I still had a couple hours to kill before I would expect Connie, so I wrote in my journal some more. Writing was one of the few things helping me move on from my past. I dug through one of my bags and pulled out the bracelet Charlie bought me. I placed it on my wrist. It went great with my outfit. I took it off after a few minutes and decided not to wear it. I put my new sunglasses on and walked down the street to get a corn dog. I sat down on a bench while I ate it. I watched people walk by. I got a little sad as happy families and happy couples walked by. I felt a little jelous. I didn't dread on it though. When I finished my corn dog, I went back to my apartment to make sure I still looked okay. I reapplied my lip gloss and waited for Connie outside my apartment. As I looked around, I felt like that was the place I belonged. I felt like I was home.
